Spirit Underwater

There’s a spirit underwater,

and a fire in the wind,

if we’re drowning under tide call

I am landfall to your skin.

There’s a lost boy In your halo

hoping you’ll remember him,

if we’re weeping

I’m the downpour of your whim

There’s a flame in the river here,

there’s bold witches in the mist.

There’s a ship western sinking here,

chasing mountains merfolk kissed.

There’s a drumbeat in the whirlwinds

calling monsters from the dark;

crave a shelter in the startops

cave to forests burning on–

tear our hopes twixt coal and smoke foes,

sever homes from safer stone

Here, take my inferno hand

and fall with me–

hear, bury shellprints under sand

and wish for these

ghosts to tread on safer land.

Go pray they make it

back to bed

before the break of dawn,

then hold candles

unto my searing wings

and light up

the sleeping sun

Lick your lip

dripping,

spirits drink the water, here,

they dance in squalid storms

with the lonely and the poor–

shield your eyes ’til

morn,

flames erupt from the clouds, here,

they wipe the cities clean

of the wealthy and our greed

if the land

breaks

dreams in the gales, here,

can pretend they own the earth

Talk to me,

spirit underwater,

fight for me,

flame in the river,

take my inferno hand

with your breath

and heartbeat upon this ship

make a Viking memorial slip

upon the waves

still burning to thy name.
