The army

got its start

as a branch of the police;

they trained

for years

just to parade through the streets

like heroes,

and sometimes

they’d guard the outskirts of the city

from a wild emu

or venomous snake

but really

they were all for show,

and not really

to back me up

in case something

ever came running

to ruin it all.
