Hey Kid,
it’s been a while since
I’ve been back north.
Have the daffodils sprung up yet
in the flower beds?
Have the magnolias bloomed?
Are the puddles expanding outside the window,
are your boots tall enough to stomp through them
and stay dry up top?
Hey Kid,
I listened to a Raye song,
and it might be
the first time
someone said
“It’s going to be alright”
that I actually believed it.
I
know that might not
make sense to you yet
but I wanted
to be honest.
Hey Kid,
to be honest,
the daffodils are on their way out here
and summer heat’s
already coming
and I dread it
because summer nights to me
mean
I can’t sleep under a supercut of memories.
But I think
it’s going to be alright,
I keep these dreams
of a happier future close to my heart,
I keep hoping in
happier memories for you
than the ones that haunt me.
It’s going to be alright, Kid,
for both of us,
all of us,
one day,
when the daffodils bloom
again.
