Clay creature in my arms,

I made more dance runes

and answered

too many personal questions honestly

since this creature

seemed to think I’d let it go

if it asked me

about my favorite types of underwear

and ugh,

if I thought it wouldn’t ruin my work

I would have released it

or

if I’d had time I’d have shut it up

but I didn’t know how many more of these

wandered the halls

that might

undo my work

so I ran faster

through roaring gales

hoping it couldn’t hear my answers

if I spoke them quietly enough

and I carved runes

that made the walls

shake,

and it took

five

off-tempo dance spells

for Percy to notice me

and I know he noticed me

because I fell

but didn’t

and blinked

but didn’t

yet the landscape changed;

storms

shrouded the sky,

the ground

became dust

the walls

disappeared

yet

I stood in a dry valley

surrounded by mountains

of rain

and the creature in my clutches

crumbled to ash

and a voice said,

“You

know not what you do,

mortal.”

and my truth spell

didn’t compel me to speak

immediately

so I tried to lie,

“Yes I do,

I’ve come to marry you.”

And the voice

said nothing

so I laughed,

rubbed dust off my arms

and asked,

“Where are we?

How do I leave

the Dust Seas

or whatever this land is?”
