I waited

a good two breaths in the corridor

for Mfrlfip to emerge after me

just to see if it would

try to stop me,

but it didn’t appear

so I

went splashing

through the narrow halls,

shouting that I needed to see Percy.

The lightning in the walls seemed to race

alongside me

and I actually laughed,

lifting my arms

like I was a stormbringer.

But the hall

just kept going,

winding

and curling

with no doors anywhere

though I bet

the whole place had rooms

on both sides

unopened to me,

so I quit running,

out of breath,

and prodded the storm clouds.

These yielded more than the walls in the room

but not enough for me to carve runes in

and of course with the water and mud

I couldn’t make clear runes in the floor

so I could

bite my arms and make rune shapes with my teeth

on my skin

but not very accurately

or I could rip up this gown

and place wet threads on the walls

but really

what I needed

was a way out of Percy’s Keep

and off these Dust Seas

and I suspected

that might require

a portal to another realm

and I bet no one

knew about those

except maybe Percy.

Except,

hey,

what better way

to get his attention

than blasting a fireball

through his walls?
