I said I want to defy gravity

but practically,

what does that look like?

Well.

Let’s make a list of the facts:

I became a witch, which very few humans ever do.

I trained more witches,

then

I let a dragon eat them.

I ate a night

and did nothing with its life.

I ruled

a city

then the people

rebelled.

I exiled myself

to sipping snow.

A spirit

possessed me for about eight days

and I came the closest to dying

I had for centuries.

So

with my

recovering health

I think

it’s time

I find out

where the strings of fate

are leading me

so I can do

not that.

then I’ll lie in wait

for karma to strike me back in line

and seize it by whatever limbs it has

before it makes me do anything.

Then I’ll

dissect it,

brew its innards in a cup

and drink it

to find out where it lives

by the fortunes it leaves

on my tongue

then I will

visit its house

and invite the neighbors,

those things like

justice

mercy

and do-good-ery-dong-dumbs

then I’ll boil their skins

to stitch up a pair of wings

and use their teeth

to make a compass

pointing toward destiny.

Then I’ll

hunt down

the fate strings

and tangle them in knots

and burn the ends off

to leave all futures unwritten

and all pasts forgotten

so all blame is knifeless

then

I’ll sit there

in the stars

or wherever we are

and fill up

the darkness between

with all sorts of happiness

like

peace

and contentment,

nice food

and entertainment,

deep conversations

with dragons

and a city

I could keep as my own.
